This week, was an exciting week for all as CubJ was at Busting Myths with Science Camp with BuddyP and SparkJ and I got to hang out with BuddyB!
The week began with our ten day check up on CubJ's arm at the cast clinic. It was very interesting to see all of the different breaks, cast colours and removals going on while we were there. After our x-rays, we awaited the doctor, where upon I was able to view the new x-rays. While I could clearly see that things were improving, we were still a fair way from being healed. That was rather a devastating blow for CubJ who was holding out hope for a quick heal.
On the top right picture, you can see the first image taken of the break ten days prior. In the large picture on the left, you can see that the gap between the bones is clearly closing. However, there clearly remains a break. The good news was that the bones are in an ideal position to heal without issue.
Dr,J pronounced that he would need at least one more week in the above elbow cast before going to a shorter cast. This would quickly turn into two weeks as we would be heading off on the 4J's Road Trip at the end of the week. So, two more weeks in the long cast for CubJ.
This was a great disappointment to CubJ. Having been casted twice myself, I could relate to his sadness. The good thing about feeling sorry for yourself when you are at the Alberta Chidren's Hospital is that a few minutes of watching the patients around you who are battling for their lives and something as minor as a broken arm suddenly looks pretty good.
While the boys were at SAIT Polytechnic doing their "Busting Myths with Science" camp, eating amazing lunches everyday and enjoying the sports facilities, we went to Dairy Lane for breakfast with BuddyB! It was fantastic. I had the Eggs Benedict with my eggs scrambled to perfection and some very good coffee! BuddyB had the Omelet of the day which she too greatly enjoyed. It had a mix of meats, vegetables and cheeses. SparkJ had the Berry Stuffed French Toast, which was over the top yummy. I find this restaurant to have GREAT service, a good selection of breakfast options and that it is another one of Calgary's AMAZING eateries. Thanks for the great morning Dairy Lane.
SAIT ran a wonderful summer camp program this year. While the boys did fun experiments including: testing out if drinking cola and eating pop rocks would make you stomach burst with balloon, will Coke-a-Cola really eat through your teeth by leaving a nail in Coke for days, can lemon juice and salt copper coat a nail, can you shrink an egg or make it disappear they also had a great time. Each day included some physical activities including swimming and soccer, fun games like Jenga and cards and an amazing meal program. The camps offered by SAIT are some of the best that I have seen. I really look forward to sending both kids next year for a week of fun.
One of the exciting bonuses of the week of camp was that CubJ got to see his BuddyL whom he used to go to school with. This past year, BuddyL moved on to a new school where he had a great year. It was so fantastic to see the boys together again as they have know each other since they were three.
What a great week of reconnecting with old friends, trying out new camps with BuddyP, hanging out together at dinner, receiving great gifts from the 3S's Hawaii trip and getting ready for 4J's Road Trip 2012!
