2014 got off to a wonderful start with breakfast
extravaganza with the 4G’s! CousinC ate an entire massive crepe of nutella,
bananas and whipped cream. It was an impressive feat of chewing prowess and stomach
stretching capacity. I must say, what a great way to catch up about how
Christmas was and ring in the new year with some hilarious family time.
January saw GuideJ set off to Winter Camp, which was held at
The Girl Guides of Canada Camp Jubilee! It was a wonderful two nights of
briskly cold fun with multiple Guides groups from all over Calgary. They made
crafts, played in the snow, went on a hike and enjoyed two huge bonfires.
Everyone was exhausted at pick up on Sunday mornings but very very happy.
GuideJ’s leaders deserve a huge shout out for their amazing
work in making this weekend come together in such a successful way for all of
the girls.
January also saw us celebrating our 15th anniversary.
To celebrate this milestone year, we headed back to Edmonton, the site of our nuptials.
While it was a quick trip, it was a great deal of fun!
The kids enjoyed swimming, a lovely lunch with SusanR and an
evening of watching a movie in the room while enjoying a dinner of room service.
It was so nice to have lunch with SusanR, hear about her Christmas cruise with
AuntieA’s family and AuntieC’s family and to have a relaxing chance for her to
catch up with the kids. The pool time was particularly nice as it was
breathtakingly cold outside in Edmonton, just like when we got married!
That evening while the kids were enjoying their evening dining
in, in our suite, DaddyJ and I enjoyed an evening downstairs. It turns out that
in the hotel’s casino there is a lovely steak house restaurant. We enjoyed a
wonderful meal that started with an amazing roasted beet and goat cheese salad.
That was followed by bison and beef steaks that were buttery tender. The meal was capped off with a white chocolate tiramisu. The best part of the evening was that it felt
like we were a million miles away on vacation when in reality we were a quick
three hour drive away with the kids upstairs safely enjoying their evening too!
Our time in Edmonton was wrapped up with a trip to the
Sugarbowl! There is nothing quite as good as their chicken n’ waffles or as it
turns out their meatball sliders. This was a great way to prepare ourselves for
the icy cold drive home.
