Our Year To Date - March

March

This was an exciting month for all of us. DaddyJ and BeaverJ went to their first Beaver's winter camp! It was a great time for all of the Beavers and despite a lack of sleep for all, even DaddyJ had a great time. Unfortunately there do not seem to be any pictures of the momentous weekend of colouring snow, the camp fire evening and everything else.

Then one day in early March DaddyJ sent me an email about a company which is incorporated in Saskatchewan who had begun to head hunt him aggressively. Well in all honesty the first thing I saw was Saskatchewan and I thought are you kidding me? Move to Saskatchewan? Well, let this be a lesson to all of you open the attachment!!!! The company is Cable Bahamas, yes BAHAMAS as in the nice little island not too far from Florida.

After much talking on the phone this outstanding company invited all 4J's to come down to the Bahamas to check out the company, housing and school situations. If I could have written DaddyJ's dream job description it would have been this job, it was perfect, the people loved him, he loved the job and it was a great match. During our stay we were able to spend a whole day driving around the island looking at homes which are very nice. We looked into some great schools and perused the aisles of the grocery stores.

On our second last day we had the opportunity to spend the day with one of Cable Bahamas VP's at his sons' end of year soccer tournament. At the soccer tournament I met half of the company’s executives who could not have been more welcoming or wonderful. The soccer was impressive too; the influence of the British is evident in the quality of the soccer played. Frankly some of the parents there could teach the hockey parents here a few new tricks!

On our way to the Bahamas we flew though Orlando and made a pit stop to see Mickey Mouse in Walt Disney World! As always all 4J's loved seeing Mickey, riding the rides and I cried during the fireworks. Here are some of the pictures of our trip.

No Trip would be complete without my eating the Hard Rock Cafe's Cobb Salad! Oddly, I am not a fan of eating "American Food" while on vacation as I think you can eat that at home any old time, and you should enjoy the local cuisine while away. It is also important to me that we try to support local business as the mass chain imports do well enough domestically. The purpose of travel is to experience different things. Somehow though that Cobb Salad calls my name every time I see a Hard Rock Cafe, not to mention the nostalgia of having eaten in several exotic location HRC like Jakarta & Singapore.

In the end when we crunched the numbers on the move it was a difficult choice as it was six and one-half-dozen the other. There really was no clear winner beyond the perfect match job for Daddy J, the changes for the kids, schools, and long term benefits were not as clear. It was an outstanding opportunity to visit the Bahamas, learn some new things and meet some of the most fantastic people we have ever encountered anywhere or anytime. Ultimately it was up to Daddy J to pick and he decided to pass with great sadness, however come May would turn out to be the right answer.
